Exploring Monster Hunter Wilds Final Fantasy XIV Cross-over

Exciting Updates: Omega Planetes and Arkveld Coming to Popular Gaming Franchises

Exciting news for fans of both the Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy XIV Online games. During the gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 event, which took place on a Tuesday, it was announced that there would be a significant crossover between these two popular titles. The first trailer, released during this event, showcased the Omega Planetes, a legendary creature from the world of Final Fantasy XIV. This formidable beast will make its debut in Monster Hunter Wilds‘ third title update, slated for late September, alongside a Chobobo skin for your Seikret companion and a sneak peek at the classic Cactuars.

The second trailer, which focuses on Final Fantasy XIV, teased fans with a glimpse of Seikrets, new mounts that will soon be joining the game’s roster. Additionally, the trailer revealed that Arkveld, a character beloved by Monster Hunter Wilds players, will make an appearance in an encounter during early October.

The producers of both games were present at the event to discuss the upcoming crossover. Fans were thrilled to see Monster Hunter Wilds producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P) take the stage to share their vision for this exciting collaboration.

This isn’t the first time these two franchises have teamed up. In August 2017, during the Stormblood expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, the Monster Hunter World game featured exclusive content that included the Rathalos trial and mount, Palico and Poogie minions, furniture items, costumes, and even the inclusion of the Behemoth monster, well-known from the ever-popular franchise.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched globally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on February 28. The game managed to sell over 8 million copies worldwide in just its first three days, setting a new record for the fastest any of the company’s titles has ever achieved. As of March, the game has sold over 10 million units, a testament to its immense popularity.

The first title update for Monster Hunter Wilds was released on April 4, introducing a host of new content and features. The second update followed, launching on June 30, continuing to keep players engaged with fresh challenges and experiences.

Final Fantasy XIV Online was released on PC in September 2010. Due to initial criticism from fans, the game underwent a complete overhaul, resulting in an updated version titled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This version added a new world and storyline, launching on Windows PC and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, PlayStation 4 in April 2014, and PlayStation 5 in May 2020. Most recently, the game was released for Xbox Series X|S in March 2024.

Since its launch, Final Fantasy XIV Online has seen the release of five major expansions: “Heavensward” in June 2015, “Stormblood” in June 2017, “Shadowbringers” in July 2019, “Endwalker” in December 2021, and “Dawntrail” in July 2024. The game has amassed an impressive 30 million registered accounts worldwide as of January 2024.

Additionally, the developers announced plans to continue supporting Final Fantasy XIV Online for the next 10 years, ensuring its longevity and continued growth. For mobile gamers, there’s also exciting news! A mobile version of the game is in development by Lightspeed Studios, officially licensed from and supervised by Square Enix. The mobile version will have “multiple playtests” in China and will launch there first, followed by a worldwide release.
