Discover Gunma: A New Light Anime Series Premiering January 2026
In the world of anime, there’s always something new and exciting on the horizon. Fans of unique and culturally rich stories are in for a treat as a new “light anime” adaptation is set to hit the screens. The upcoming series, titled “Omae wa Mada Gunma o Shiranai ~Reiwa-ban~” (You don’t know GUNMA yet. ~Reiwa Version~), is based on the popular manga by Hiroto Ida.
The anime is being produced by IMAGICA Infos, a renowned publishing and anime production company. This new adaptation will premiere in January 2026 on SKY PerfecTV!’s Tetsudล Channel, promising a fresh take on the beloved manga.
The original manga, “Omae wa Mada Gunma o Shiranai,” follows the story of Nori Kamitsuki, who relocates from Chiba Prefecture to a fictionalized version of Gunma Prefecture, located northwest of Tokyo. The narrative delves into the rich culture of Gunma, a place often misunderstood and feared due to its online reputation. As Kamitsuki settles in, he encounters locals who are deeply passionate about their prefecture’s unique heritage.
Hiroto Ida launched the manga on Shinchosha’s manga website Kurage Bunch in October 2013. The series concluded in May 2019, with 11 compiled book volumes published. The manga’s popularity led to a 12-episode series of anime shorts that premiered in April 2018. The series was streamed internationally, allowing fans worldwide to experience the charm of Gunma.
The concept of “light anime” was introduced by DNP to streamline the animation process, making it more cost-effective and timely compared to traditional methods. The Balloon label aims to produce four new titles in the 2026 fiscal year, with a long-term goal of achieving a workflow capable of handling 10 or more projects annually by 2028.
The anticipation for “Omae wa Mada Gunma o Shiranai ~Reiwa-ban~” is building, and fans are eager to see how this new adaptation will bring the vibrant culture of Gunma to life. Stay tuned for more updates as the premiere date approaches.
