The excitement for volleyball enthusiasts and anime fans alike has reached new heights as Crunchyroll has begun streaming the English dubs of the first two seasons of Haikyu!!. The highly anticipated release dropped on Friday, offering viewers a fresh way to enjoy the thrilling sports series.
Production I.G’s adaptation of Haruichi Furudate’s popular volleyball manga first hit the screens in April 2014. The initial season, consisting of 25 episodes, concluded in September of the same year. The second season followed, premiering in October 2015, continuing the intense and heartwarming story of the Karasuno High School volleyball team.
The anime’s journey didn’t stop there. The third season aired in October 2016, and the fourth season, titled Haikyu!! To The Top, kicked off in January 2020. Each season has added depth and excitement to the narrative, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
In addition to the television series, the first season received two compilation films. The first film, Haikyu!! the Movie 1: The End and the Beginning (Gekijล-ban Haikyu!! Owari to Hajimari), hit Japanese theaters in July 2015. The second film, Haikyu!! the Movie 2: The Winner and the Loser (Gekijล-ban Haikyu!! Shลsha to Haisha), followed in September 2015.
The franchise has also expanded with the two-part Haikyu!! Final sequel film project. The first film, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle (Gekijลban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen), premiered in Japan in February 2024. This film showcased the epic showdown between Karasuno High and Nekoma High. The second film, Gekijลban Haikyลซ!! VS Chiisana Kyojin (Haikyu!! Vs. The Little Giant), has been confirmed and is eagerly awaited by fans.
Beyond the anime, Furudate’s manga has inspired a variety of additional content, including three anime specials, two other compilation films, a clay-animated special, a series of novels, and a Nintendo 3DS game adaptation. The manga itself began as a one-shot in the Winter 2011 issue of Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Next! magazine and later ran another one-shot in the main Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The series version of the manga launched the following year and concluded in July 2020.
The rich tapestry of Haikyu!! continues to captivate audiences worldwide, and with the English dubs of the first two seasons now available on Crunchyroll, fans have even more reasons to dive into the world of competitive volleyball and friendship.
