The Obsessed: A Musical Anime Film Set to Premiere in Japan
The highly anticipated musical anime film, The Obsessed, is set to hit Japanese theaters on November 7. This cinematic adaptation brings to life the novel Toritsukare Otoko (Obsessed Man) by Shinji Ishii, offering fans a unique blend of music and storytelling.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has released an exciting preview clip from the film, showcasing the musical number “Fanfare ~Koi ni Ukarete~” (Fanfare ~Giddy in Love~). This in-movie rendition of the theme song features the main actors, Masaya Sano and Moka Kamishiraishi, who play Giuseppe and Pechka, respectively.

The cast of The Obsessed includes Masaya Sano, a member of the Ae! group, who portrays Giuseppe. Moka Kamishiraishi takes on the role of Pechka. Both actors will also lend their voices to the film’s soundtrack, with Sano and Kamishiraishi performing the songs together.
Atagi, a member of Awesome City Club, is making his debut as a contributor to a film’s soundtrack with five original songs for Toritsukare Otoko. His contributions also include part of the background music, featuring the theme song “Fanfare.”
The film is directed by Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on the Crayon Shin-chan films (2014, 2016, 2018, 2021). The script is penned by Naoyuki Miura, who has worked on projects like Fujoshi and Ukkari Gay ni Kokuru. Character designs are handled by Masatsugu Arakawa, renowned for his work on Windy Tales and Medabots Spirit. The film is being distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks.
The story of The Obsessed revolves around Giuseppe, a man known in his town as the “Obsessed Man” due to his short-lived but intense obsessions. His life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Pechka, a balloon seller, and falls in love at first sight. Despite his efforts to get closer to her, Pechka’s hidden sadness keeps him at a distance. With the help of his friend Cielo, Giuseppe uses his past obsessions to gradually win Pechka’s heart.
The film will also be screened at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival, adding to the anticipation and excitement surrounding its release.
