The sequel promises a fresh take on the original story, with a limited theatrical release that will eventually make its way to television screens. The narrative follows Renako Amaori, a former shy and socially awkward girl who has reinvented herself for high school. Her newfound confidence lands her in the top-tier popular group, but her life takes an unexpected turn when two of the group’s brightest stars confess their feelings for her. Renako finds herself torn between the affections of Mai Oduka, the school’s ultimate prince, and Ajisai Sena, the beloved angel of the campus. As she struggles to navigate these romantic entanglements, she agrees to help her friend Kaho with a cosplay event, hoping it will give her more time to decide. However, witnessing Kaho’s passion firsthand stirs something within Renako, forcing her to confront her true desires and what she genuinely seeks in life.

The original anime, which premiered in July, was directed by Natsumi Uchinuma at Studio Mother. The series script was supervised and written by Naruhisa Arakawa, known for his work on “This Art Club Has a Problem!” and “ISLAND.” The character designs were crafted by the talented artist kojikoji, while the animation directors included Misaki Kaneko, Haruki Moriya, Takashi Shiokawa, Kino Tokino, and Keinosuke Ami. The music was composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa, adding depth to the emotional journey of the characters.

The visual and artistic direction was handled by Mitsuko Sekimoto, with art direction by Yuri Takagi and Keito Watanabe. Takuma Morooka served as the compositing director of photography, and Ichiro Chaen was responsible for editing. Takayuki Yamaguchi oversaw the sound direction, ensuring an immersive auditory experience.

The opening theme song, “Muri Muri Evolution” (The Impossible Theory of Evolution), is performed by Akari Nanawo, while the ending theme, “Mayocchauwa” (I’m Confused), is brought to life by Philosophy no Dance.

The story, originally a light novel series by Teren Mikami, has been adapted into a manga and is being released in English by Seven Seas. The narrative revolves around Renako Amaori, who aims to leave her awkward junior high school days behind and embrace a normal high school life. Her newfound friendship with the glamorous and confident Mai Ouzuka takes an unexpected turn when Mai confesses her romantic feelings. Renako, determined to prove that friendship is better than romance, finds herself entangled in a complex web of love and confusion.

The first light novel volume was published under Shueisha’s Dash X Bunko label in February 2020, with illustrations by Eku Takushima. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Musshu, began its run in Shueisha’s Dash X Comic section of the Nico Nico Seiga website in May 2020.
