Ryōta Suzuki will bring to life the lead character, Shinigami Yashiro. The anime is being directed by Shinji Ushiro at OLM, with Yoichi Kato overseeing the series scripts. Rika Murakami is responsible for the character designs, and Kenichiro Suehiro will compose the music, ensuring a rich and immersive experience for viewers.

The anime is set to premiere in January 2026 and will be broadcast on NTV and its affiliated channels. This highly anticipated series is based on the manga “Scum of the Brave,” which debuted in 2018 and is serialized on LEED Publishing’s Comic Border service. The seventh volume of the manga was released on March 21.

The story of “Scum of the Brave” unfolds in an alternate 21st century where wealthy mafia members undergo ether-enhancement surgery to transform into “Demon Kings.” Bounty hunters known as “Braves” are tasked with taking them down. Yashiro, the protagonist, seeks simple pleasures in life but finds himself entangled in a complex web when he accepts a lucrative offer to be a private tutor for three young Braves.

The original story was launched on the Kakuyomu website in February 2016 and is being republished in novel format with revisions. The new publication will feature illustrations by toi8, adding a fresh visual dimension to the narrative.

Rocket Shokai, the writer behind “Scum of the Brave,” is also known for the light novel series “Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004,” which is also being adapted into a television anime series. This series is scheduled to debut in January 2026 after a delay.

Fans are eagerly awaiting more updates and teasers from the production team as the release date approaches. Stay tuned for further developments on this thrilling new anime.
