According to Box Office Mojo, as of September 21, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai has amassed an estimated $555 million worldwide. This staggering figure positions it as the highest-grossing anime film of all time and the highest-grossing Japanese film globally. The movie has also secured the #9 spot on the list of highest-grossing films worldwide for 2025, outpacing blockbusters like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Captain America: Brave New World.

In the United States, the film earned an impressive $17.3 million from Friday to Sunday, securing the top spot at the U.S. box office for the second weekend in a row. This achievement marks a significant milestone, as it is the first anime film to maintain the number one position in the U.S. for two consecutive weekends. The film’s earnings broke down as follows: $4,585,000 on Friday, $7,300,000 on Saturday, and an estimated $5,415,000 on Sunday. With a total of $104,730,034 in the U.S., it has become the highest-grossing anime film in the country and the first to surpass the $100 million mark.

The film’s opening weekend was equally impressive, earning $70,611,098. This not only set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for an anime film in the U.S. but also broke the same record when adjusted for inflation. The previous record holder was Pokรฉmon: The First Movie, which had earned $31 million in its opening weekend.

In Japan, the film has sold a total of 23,042,671 tickets, generating 33,056,606,000 yen (approximately $224 million). This places it as the second highest-earning film of all time at the Japanese box office, surpassing Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, which had previously held the second spot with earnings of 31,680,000,000 yen (about $315 million in 2001’s yen-dollar conversion).

The previous highest-grossing film in Japan from the same franchise, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, released in October 2020, remains the highest-earning film in the country with a total take of 40.75 billion yen (about $277 million in current conversion). It surpassed Spirited Away in December 2020, just two months after its release.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki at ufotable, the film also features a screenplay by ufotable. The soundtrack includes the song “Taiyล ga Noboranai Sekai” (“A World Where the Sun Never Rises”) performed by Aimer, and “Zankoku no Yoru ni Kagayake” (“Shine in the Cruel Night”) performed by LiSA.
