The highly anticipated third season of the beloved anime series Grand Blue Dreaming has been officially announced. Fans of the series, based on the manga by Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka, received exciting news on Tuesday: the show is set to dive into new waters with its third installment. This upcoming season will take viewers to the beautiful island nation of Palau, marking the first time the series ventures outside of Japan.
The official website unveiled a stunning visual to accompany the announcement, giving fans a glimpse into what’s to come. The second season concluded its 12-episode run on Monday, but unfortunately, it was leaked online in July. The final episode of the leak hinted at the continuation of the series, fueling speculation among fans.
The new season will premiere on Tokyo MX and BS11 channels on July 7, with additional screenings on MBS. The story picks up with Iori returning to Izu after completing his diving license training in Okinawa. Upon his return, he receives a letter from his younger sister, Shiori, setting the stage for new adventures.
The cast for the new season includes several fresh faces:
– Aya Yamane as Sakurako Busujima, a first-year college student
– Sumire Morohoshi as Shiori Kitahara, Iori’s younger sister
– Yoshino Aoyama as Naomi Otoya, a high school student who manages the kitchen at Iori’s part-time job
The returning cast and crew bring their expertise to the new season, with Zero-G returning to animate the series. Additionally, the studio Liber joins the production team. Key staff members include director/scriptwriter/sound director Shinji Takamatsu, character designer/chief animation director Hideoki Kusama, and chief animation director Yōichi Ueda. The sound production will be handled by Saber Links.
Several staff changes have been noted for this season. Reiji Kasuga takes over as the art director, replacing Minoru Akiba from Studio Jack. Jimao will design the props, taking over from Hiroshi Ogawa. Naoyuki Katō will serve as the compositing director of photography, replacing Hideki Imaizumi. Shun Tokuda will handle editing, succeeding Masaki Utsunomiya. Yukari Hashimoto, known for her work on Mr. Osomatsu and Sarazanmai, will compose the music, replacing Manual of Errors Artists.
The Japanese reggae group Shōnan no Kaze will return to create and perform the opening theme song “Seishun Towa” (Eternal Youth) for the anime, this time collaborating with the dance vocal unit Atarashii Gakkō!. Shōnan no Kaze also created the opening song for the first season.
The manga, which serves as the basis for the anime, is being released digitally in English by Kodansha USA Publishing. The story follows Iori Kitahara as he moves to a seaside town and experiences a college life filled with diving, beautiful girls, and mischievous adventures. The manga launched in Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon magazine in April 2014 and has since inspired various adaptations, including a live-action film that premiered in Japan in August 2020.
