The highly anticipated film “A New Dawn” has unveiled a new teaser trailer, revealing an updated release date. The movie, directed by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, will now premiere on March 6, 2026. Originally scheduled for this year, the film was pushed back to 2026.
The teaser, released on Friday, features previously unseen footage and confirms the new opening date. Shinomiya’s directorial debut centers around a 330-year-old fireworks factory facing eviction. The story revolves around young individuals who grew up near the factory, particularly focusing on Keitarล and his childhood friend Kaoru.
Keitarล has been secluded in the factory for four years, working on the legendary “Shuhari” firework in place of his absent father. Kaoru, who left home due to a past incident and has been living in Tokyo, returns to reunite with Keitarล. Together, they devise a surprising plan to uncover the secret of the long-lost firework. The title “Hana Rokushล” refers to the Paris Green pigment used in fireworks, a key element in the narrative. “Akeru” translates to “dawn” or “daybreak.”
The film stars Riku Hagiwara as Keitarล Tatewaki and Kotone Furukawa as Kaoru Shikimori, marking their voice acting debuts. Additionally, Miyu Irino will voice Sentarล Tatewaki, Keitarล’s older brother and Kaoru’s childhood friend, while Takashi Okabe makes his voice acting debut as Eitarล Tatewaki, Keitarล’s missing father.
Shinomiya not only directs the film but also conceived the story and wrote the script. Utsushita is responsible for character design, Akiko Majima serves as an artist, and Shลta Hasunuma composes the music. The film is a collaborative effort between ASMIK Ace and the French studio Miyu Productions.
“A New Dawn” was showcased at the Annecy International Film Festival’s “Animation Day” in May 2024, where Shinomiya introduced the work and presented a making-of video.
Shinomiya has an impressive background, having contributed to various notable projects. He drew poster art and backgrounds for Makoto Shinkai’s “The Garden of Words,” “your name,” and “Children Who Chase Lost Voices.” He also worked on background art for “Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin” and “Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works.” Additionally, Shinomiya served as a unit director on “your name” and directed its flashback sequence. He provided art for “Pokรฉmon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle” and led a collaborative project featuring a short anime about the history of Shibuya Crossing in 2018.
