Exclusive U.S. Debut of Next Shine Anime at Anime Frontier 2025

Exciting News: “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… Next Stage” Makes Its U.S. Debut at Anime Frontier 2025

Fans of heartwarming and humorous anime are in for a treat this December. The highly anticipated sequel, “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Stage~,” will make its exclusive U.S. debut at Anime Frontier 2025. This exciting announcement was made by REMOW, the production committee behind the series.

The event, scheduled to take place in Fort Worth, TX from December 12 to 14, will feature the premiere screening of the sequel to the beloved television anime. This sequel continues the story of Renako Amaori, a former shy and awkward girl who reinvented herself for high school and found herself in a whirlwind of romantic entanglements.

The sequel, described as a restructured limited theatrical release, will run in Japan from November 21 to December 5 before airing on TV as a five-episode show. It picks up where the previous anime left off, delving deeper into Renako’s journey of self-discovery and love.

REMOW offers a glimpse into the sequel’s plot: “I want to learn to love myself—just the way I am!” Renako Amaori, once a gloomy and socially awkward girl, reinvented herself for high school and successfully made her debut. She even managed to join the top-tier popular group… only to be suddenly confessed to by two of its brightest stars?! One is the school’s ultimate prince, Mai Oduka. The other, the beloved angel of the campus, Ajisai Sena. There’s no way she can handle both their affections—no freaking way! While still struggling to give them an answer, Renako agrees to help her friend Kaho by joining a cosplay event. It’s the perfect excuse to delay her reply… or so she thought. But as she witnesses Kaho’s passion firsthand, something begins to stir inside her. What is it that she truly wants? What is she truly searching for? Can she really not become someone’s lover? Or has that “no freaking way”… not been so impossible after all?

The original anime, based on Teren Mikami’s yuri romantic comedy novel series “Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Muri Muri! Muri Janakatta!?” or “WATANARE,” premiered on July 7 and was streamed globally by REMOW. The series stars Natsumi Uchinuma, known for her work on “Arifureta – From Commonplace to World’s Strongest” and “More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers,” as the director. Naruhisa Arakawa, who has worked on “This Art Club Has a Problem!” and “ISLAND,” supervised and wrote the series’ scripts. The character designs were created by kojikoji, with Misaki Kaneko, Haruki Moriya, Takashi Shiokawa, Kino Tokino, and Keinosuke Ami serving as animation directors. Yoshiaki Fujisawa composed the music.

The voice cast includes Yukari Anzai, who will make her first U.S. appearance at the screening. The opening theme song “Muri Muri Evolution” (The Impossible Theory of Evolution) is performed by Akari Nanawo, while the ending theme song “Mayocchauwa” (I’m Confused) is by Philosophy no Dance.

The original light novel series, published under Shueisha’s Dash X Bunko label, has been adapted into a manga by Musshu, which launched in Shueisha’s Dash X Comic section of the Nico Nico Seiga website in May 2020.

The story revolves around Renako Amaori, who is determined to become a normal girl with normal friends in high school. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she forms an immediate connection with glamorous and confident Mai Ouzuka. Renako’s world is turned upside down when Mai confesses her romantic feelings, leading to a series of love games and self-discovery.
