Exclusive: Undead Unluck Anime Special to Premiere on Christmas Day with New Characters
Fans of the popular series are in for a treat this holiday season. The upcoming one-hour special for the television anime adaptation of Yoshifumi Tozuka’s manga, Undead Unluck, is set to air on December 25. The special will be broadcast on MBS and TBS, along with their affiliate networks.
The latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump revealed two new cast members joining the series. Kenshล Ono will voice Tella, a subordinate of Billy, while Takehito Koyasu will bring to life Balance, an original character who is an Unidentified Mysterious Animal (UMA) tasked with managing world balance.

Sunghoo Park, known for his work on Jujutsu Kaisen, will direct the special and handle the storyboards at his studio E&H production. Yamato Haishima, who previously worked on Fire Force, will return to write the screenplay. Hideyuki Morioka, recognized for his character designs in D.Gray-man, will collaborate with Shun’ichi Ishimoto, who worked on Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, to design the characters. Kenichiro Suehiro, who composed the music for Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, will return to create the musical score. UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS will once again produce and plan the anime, with cooperation from david production, the animation studio behind the first season.
The special will feature an original story penned by Tozuka, who also designed a new UMA creature exclusively for this episode. The television anime debuted in October 2023 and concluded with its 24th episode in March 2024. It is currently streaming on Hulu.

What happens when an unlucky girl meets an undead guy? Pure chaos! Tired of inadvertently killing people with her special ability Unluck, Fuuko Izumo sets out to end it all. But when she meets Andy, a man who longs for death but can’t die, she finds a reason to liveโand he finds someone capable of giving him the death he’s been longing for.
The special will also see the return of several key cast members, including Moe Kahara as Fuuko Izumo, Yลซichi Nakamura as Andy, Mariya Ise as Juiz, Rikiya Koyama as Billy, and Tomokazu Sugita as Apocalypse.
The manga, originally published as a one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2019, began its serialized run in January 2020. The series concluded its magazine serialization on January 27, with the 27th and final compiled book volume released on April 4, including five epilogue chapters. The manga has been digitally published by Viz Media since January 2020 and in print since May 2021. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service also releases the manga digitally.
The manga ranked at #14 on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2021 list of manga for male readers and won the sixth “Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho” (Next Manga Awards) in August 2020.
