The vibrant world of entertainment just received an exhilarating boost with the announcement of a fresh project called “Datewars.” The creator behind this novel endeavor is the masterful Yûichirô Momose, the brilliant mind that brought us the captivating universe of “Hypnosis Mic.”
While Momose steers the narrative, Hanaharu Naruko, known for their work on “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet” as well as “Kandagawa Jet Girls” lends their artistic prowess as the character designer. Pulsating throughout the series will be music crafted and produced by Mino, who will take on multiple roles including music producer, video creator, and music commentator.
Established as a “timeless music IP project,” “Datewars” seeks to invigorate musical styles extending from the dynamic 70s to the eclectic 2000s. The plot revolves around a world in which songs are deemed more powerful than any weapon, allowing some melodies to wield immense influence. The story unveils a twisted tale of Einstürzende Neubauten, an organization that abolished the death penalty in favor of exceedingly harsh sentences. These sentences can span up to 100 million years of labor, extending the punishment even to the descendants of the criminals.
Enter The Garden of Possibility/Birthday, a terrorist faction with the power to travel back in time. Their goal? To create a universe where Einstürzende Neubauten never came into existence. To stand against this threat, the Special Combined Force of Einstürzende Neubauten Springs the “Timeless Travelers,” a squad composed of The Damned wielding songs as their primary weapon.
A total of 14 voice actresses will bring to life characters from various musical eras, each team specializing in a specific decade:
1. The “70s Timeless Travelers”: Rinrin Ruru, Miki Ikomiki, Mai Maimai.
2. The “80s Timeless Travelers”: Ume Kamiatakaashitsuhimenomikoto, Tone Sukunahikonanokami, Hatsu Kuebiko, and Tomi Kushinadahime.
3. The “90s Timeless Travelers”: Shuro Kogarasumaru, Matatabi Kotetsu, Marumero Nenekirimaru, and Shara Kitsunegasaki.
4. The “2000s Timeless Travelers”: Niko Tanaka, Ichiko Tanaka, and Miko Tanaka.
Backing this ambitious project is a formidable production committee, comprising talent agencies Twin Planet, INCS Toenter, and creative powerhouse UUUM, alongside media giants EXNOA, printing experts Dai Nippon Printing, Hamachi Network 2, and content creators LuaaZ.
The storyline unfolds primarily through the rivalry between the “Timeless Travelers” and “The Garden of Possibility/Birthday.” As each conflict is resolved in “Amnesty Battles,” these modern gladiators reduce their sentences, inching closer to their freedom.
For those eager to experience the musical vengeance of “Datewars,” the YouTube channel has released its first thrilling music video, showcasing the heart-pounding single, “Jailbird.”
The franchise looks to burgeon across multiple mediums, ranging from manga and anime to mobile games, films, concerts, and stage events.
