A new anime adaptation is on the horizon, and it promises a blend of horror and comedy that fans are sure to enjoy. The upcoming television series is based on Byū’s manga, Let’s Go Kaikigumi, and it’s set to debut in 2026.
The story kicks off on a fateful day when an unnamed, cowardly protagonist crosses paths with Mechako, the leader of the “Kaikigumi” organization. This group is responsible for managing the ghosts and supernatural creatures that scare humans. Through a series of events, the protagonist becomes involved in the revival of the Kaikigumi, leading to a series of bizarre, yet not frightening, phenomena occurring around him.
The voice cast includes Tasuku Hatanaka as the unnamed protagonist and Ruriko Aoki as Mechako. Shigeru Chiba will serve as the narrator for the anime.
Yutaka Hirata, known for his work as a unit director on STARMYU, is helming the project at C-Station. Mutsumi Ito, who has experience with ROOM CAMP, will supervise and write the series scripts. Yoshimitsu Yamashita, renowned for his character designs in Mushibugyō and Blade of the Immortal, will be handling the character designs for this anime.
Uketsu, known for his articles on the Omocoro web service and the novel The Strange House, is also involved in the production, credited for “song collaboration.”
The anime will air on TBS and 27 affiliated channels on Sunday evenings. Byū originally serialized the manga on the Omocoro web service from 2018 to 2024.
