In an exciting announcement for cinephiles, Lionsgate is set to release the extended director’s cut of Quentin Tarantino’s iconic “Kill Bill” series, titled “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,” in U.S. theaters starting December 5. This will be the first wide release of the epic film, which will be available in both 70mm and 35mm film prints, offering viewers an immersive cinematic experience.
“Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair” is a monumental 247-minute compilation of the original “Kill Bill: Vol. 1,” released in 2003, and “Kill Bill: Vol. 2,” which hit theaters in 2004. The extended version includes seven additional minutes of animation, meticulously added by Production I.G. and integrated by Tarantino to enhance the narrative.
The director’s cut made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, screening out of competition. It later garnered significant attention when it was shown at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles for four consecutive sold-out days in March 2011.
The animated sequences in “Kill Bill” are a standout feature, with character designs by Katsuhito Ishii and ShÅ« Tajima. Production I.G., renowned for their work on “Ghost in the Shell” and “Miss Hokusai,” brought these designs to life in the “Kill Bill Chapter 3: The Origin of O-Ren” sequence, which first appeared in the 2003 volume of the series.
