Excitement Builds for the Upcoming Anime “Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to be a Masked Rider”
The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Yokusaru Shibata’s beloved manga Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to Be a Masked Rider has officially announced its debut. The wait is almost over, with the show set to premiere on October 4.
On Wednesday, the Japanese variety program 5-ji ni Muchū! revealed the opening theme song and the debut date of the anime. Skilled musicians Teddyloid, Shigeru Matsuzaki, and TOPHAMHAT-KYO (FAKE TYPE) joined forces to create the captivating opening theme, “Wanna be.” The song’s score and arrangement were painstakingly crafted by Teddyloid, Emme, and TOPHAMHAT-KYO (FAKE TYPE), with lyrics penned by Konnie Aoki.

The anime will be helmed by Takahiro Ikezoe, a seasoned director known for his work on projects like Ozma and Show By Rock!!, at the esteemed LIDEN FILMS studio. Tōko Machida, with an impressive list of credits including Allison & Lillia and Wake Up, Girls!, is in charge of writing the series scripts. The character designs are being overseen by Cindy H. Yamauchi, who previously worked on Blade and Sōten Kōro. The music, which is sure to captivate audiences, will be composed by Teddyloid, who has previously contributed to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT.
The manga, which serves as the inspiration for the anime, tells the story of Tanazaburo Tojima, a 40-year-old man who still harbors a deep-seated desire to become a holder of the legendary Kamen Rider mask. Just as he is on the brink of abandoning his dream, circumstances thrust him into a series of criminal events that will test his mettle and spirit.
Yokusaru Shibata, the creative mind behind Tojima Tanzaburo and acclaimed works like Air Master and 81diver, launched the manga in Monthly Hero’s magazine in 2018, where it has continued to captivate readers online through the Comiplex website. The 16th volume of the manga was released on April 4.
