In the realm of anime, fans of the popular franchise My Hero Academia received exciting news during a stage presentation at the KyoMAF event. The event, held on a Sunday, unveiled that the second season of the television anime adaptation of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is set to debut in January 2026. This adaptation is based on the manga created by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court.
The event also showcased a new visual for the upcoming season, giving fans a sneak peek into what to expect. The first season of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes premiered on April 7, airing on Tokyo MX and BS NTV channels. The series was streamed worldwide, excluding Asia, by Crunchyroll, which also provided an English dub.
Kenichi Suzuki, known for his work on Cells at Work! and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, directed the first season. The production was handled by BONES’ newly established company, BONES FILM. Yลsuke Kuroda, who worked on the main My Hero Academia anime, wrote and oversaw the series scripts. Takahiko Yoshida, known for his character designs in Yowamushi Pedal and Cells at Work!, designed the characters for the series. Yuki Hayashi, along with Shลgo Yamashiro and Yลซki Furuhashi, composed the music.
The production team also included Yukihiro Watanabe as the art director, Haruko Nobori as the color designer, Yingying Zhang as the director of photography, Mizuki Sasaki as the 3DCG director, Kiyoshi Hirose as the editor, and Masafumi Mima as the sound director.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spinoff of Kลhei Horikoshi’s original manga. The story takes place before the events of the main manga and follows Koichi Haimawari, who, despite not becoming an official hero, uses his modest Quirk to do good deeds. His journey leads him to team up with two other unlikely heroes, and together, they navigate the challenges of fighting evil.
The manga was launched in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump GIGA magazine in August 2016 and later relaunched on Shonen Jump+ in December 2016. Viz Media began releasing the manga digitally in English in August 2017 and also published it in print. The manga concluded in May 2022, with a total of 15 compiled book volumes.
