The highly anticipated anime film adaptation of Nowaki Fukamidori’s fantasy novel, “Whoever Steals This Book,” has unveiled new trailers and additional cast members. The official website for the film released both a 60-second and a 30-second trailer on Thursday, providing fans with a fresh glimpse into the upcoming feature.

The film is set to debut on December 26, marking a significant event for fans of the original novel. The star-studded cast and crew include:
– Daisei Fukuoka, known for directing the Radiant series, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School: Despair Arc and Future Arc, and Phantom of the Idol, is at the helm as the director. He is working with Kagome Company (Kagokan).
– Yasuhiro Nakanishi, renowned for his work on Kaguya-sama: Love is War, No Longer Allowed In Another World, and Shy, is crafting the script.
– Keiko Kurosawa, celebrated for her character designs in Astra Lost in Space and Asobi Asobase -workshop of fun-, is serving as the film’s animation director.
– Michiru ลshima, famous for her compositions in Fullmetal Alchemist and Little Witch Academia, is composing the music.
– Yลซji Higa, the founder of Kagokan, is the animation producer.
– Kadokawa Animation is handling the distribution.
Additional staff members include vocalist Yuki, formerly of Judy and Mary, who is performing the theme song “Share.”
The novel, originally published by Kadokawa in 2020, has already garnered significant attention. Yen On licensed and released the novel on February 18, describing the story as follows:
Mifuyu is a high school student living with a large collection of books left by her great-grandfatherโthe vast library known as Mikura Hall. Although her father is the current caretaker, Mifuyu herself doesn’t share her family’s passion for literature. But when several books are stolen from the library, triggering an ancient curse, the town is transformed according to the various storiesโand the only way to put things right is for Mifuyu to catch the thief. With the help of a mysterious girl named Mashiro, Mifuyu sets out on an adventure through the different story worlds!
A manga adaptation of the novel by Kakeru Sora was serialized in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine from December 2021 to March 2023. Yen Press released the manga’s three compiled book volumes in English.
Kadokawa also published Fukamidori’s spinoff novel titled Kลซsล no Umi (Fantasy Sea) in May 2023.
