The highly anticipated finale of the Love Live! Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Dōkōkai trilogy is set to hit theaters next winter. The announcement, made on Monday, revealed that Love Live! Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Dōkōkai Kanketsu-hen Saishūshō, the third and final installment of the trilogy, will premiere during the upcoming winter season. Alongside the announcement, a captivating visual for the film was unveiled.
The first two films in the trilogy took viewers on a journey through various locations, including Okinawa, Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto. However, the final film will bring the story back to Tokyo, providing a fitting conclusion to the series.
The first film in the trilogy opened in September 2024, followed by the second film, which premiered in Japan in November 2025. The trilogy is set after the two previous television seasons and the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Next Sky original video anime project. The main cast and staff are returning for this trilogy, ensuring a consistent and cohesive narrative.
The anime series follows the adventures of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club after Isla returns to her home country. The club receives an invitation to the “School Idol GPX” contest, where contestants compete individually through performances distributed via an app. In the first film, six members—Ayumu, Kasumi, Shizuku, Kanata, Emma, and Lanzhu—travel to Okinawa to compete, each experiencing new encounters and personal growth. The second film features Karin, Ai, Setsuna, Rina, Shioriko, and Mia as they explore the cities of Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe in Japan’s Kansai region.
The first season of the main Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime premiered on Tokyo MX, Bandai Channel, Line Live, and YouTube Live streaming services in October 2020. The second season followed in April 2023. The Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Next Sky theatrical OVA opened in June 2023. Additionally, Nijiyon Animation, the short television anime based on Miyakohito’s four-panel manga spinoff, debuted its second season in April 2024.
The franchise’s staff introduced the members of Nijigasaki Academy’s Idol Appreciation Club in 2017 as part of the Love Live! School Idol Festival smartphone game’s “Perfect Dream Project” (PDP).
