The adaptation is helmed by industry veterans Yuzō Satō, renowned for his work on acclaimed series like “Kaiji,” “Trillion Game,” and “Akagi.” It also features the skilled direction of Asami Kawano. Renowned screenwriter Tatsuhiko Urahata is overseeing the script, while Kei Tsuchiya brings the characters to life with his talented designing, and Kisuke Koizumi leads the sound direction.

Shinobu Kaitani shared his reflections on the adaptation:
“This year marks the 20 years since the first appearance of LIAR GAME in Young Jump. This anniversary serves as the announcement of the anime adaptation of the series.” Over the past two decades, the world has witnessed significant changes, from the COVID-19 pandemic to the rise of social media, enhancing the relevance of the manga’s theme of trust and deception. “I believe this story will resonate with you in some way, whether you’re someone who feels nostalgic for this series or someone discovering it for the first time. I hope you look forward to it.”

The new anime is expected to faithfully bring to life the thrilling suspense and complex characters that have captivated fans for decades. The tale follows Nao Kanzaki, who unwittingly becomes entangled in a perilous game of deceit, and Shinichi Akiyama, a genius con artist who steps in to help her navigate the challenging world of “Liar Game.”

The manga ran from 2005 to January 2015 in Shueisha’s “Weekly Young Jump” and has since inspired two live-action films, two live-action television series, two live-action online series, and a stage play in 2023. This track record of successful adaptations underscores the enduring appeal and quality of “Liar Game.”

Kaitani’s prior work, “ONE OUTS,” was also adapted into a television anime in 2008, showcasing his ability to create captivating narratives that translate well to various mediums.
