The film revolves around Shiori Maezawa, an ordinary high school girl who finds herself in a deserted parallel world of Yokohama after her smartphone suddenly breaks. She discovers photos on her social media accounts that she doesn’t remember posting. To prevent her other self from spiraling out of control, Shiori must navigate the strange labyrinth of her smartphone.
Kawamori is directing the anime, his first feature-length animated film not based on an existing franchise, at SANZIGEN. The original story concept is credited to Slow Curve, Vector Vision, GAGA, and Fuji Television, with Slow Curve also handling the planning and production. Risa Ebata is designing the characters, and Taichi Hashimoto wrote the script.
Kawamori has expressed that the film is inspired by the idea that smartphones, which accumulate personal data, are essentially “another self.” He aims to create an emotional, pop entertainment piece that blends song and horror.
Kawamori is renowned for his work on The Super Dimension Fortress Macross series, where he designed the iconic transforming Variable Fighter mecha and oversaw most of the main installments, including Macross Delta. He has also created series like Aquarion, AKB0048, and Arjuna, and contributed mechanical design work to numerous other anime projects.
