Yamato 3199: Rebel Title Unveiled and Premiere Date Announced

The latest installment in the Space Battleship Yamato franchise is making waves with exciting new developments. Bandai Namco Filmworks has unveiled the title and premiere date for the fifth film in the Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199 series. The film, titled Hakunetsu no Ginga Taisen, is set to hit theaters on February 20. This announcement comes hot on the heels of the fourth film, Mizuiro no Sasha, which opened on October 10, 2025.

The fifth film’s teaser visual, created by the renowned Kia Asamiya, has also been revealed. Asamiya is known for his work on the Silent Mรถbius manga and his contributions to Star Blazers Chronicle 2202.

The fourth film, Mizuiro no Sasha, has already made its debut in Japan. Fans can look forward to the Blu-ray Disc and DVD release on December 24. The third film, Gunjล no Asteroid, premiered on April 11, 2025, continuing the series’ momentum.

The Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199 series is part of a larger project that will consist of seven films. Crunchyroll is streaming the series under the title Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199.

The first film, Kuro no Shinryaku, opened in July 2024 and earned 58,863,050 yen in its first three days. The second film, Sekijitsu no Shutsugeki, premiered in November 2024 and grossed 64,118,600 yen in its opening weekend. The second film also featured a special limited edition Blu-ray Disc available during its screening run, which was later released on retail Blu-ray Disc and DVD on January 29.

Megumi Han, who took over the role of Sasha in the second film from her mother Keiko Han, also performed the theme song “Hikari no Nami” for the fourth film. The series is directed by Naomichi Yamato, with Harutoshi Fukui serving as supervising director, head writer, and scriptwriter. Hideki Oka is co-writing the script, while Nobuteru Yลซki is the character designer. The mechanical designs are credited to Junichirล Tamamori, Mika Akitaka, and Yasushi Ishizu. Hiroyuki Gotล is the CG producer, and Shลsuke Uechi is the CG director. Tomohiro Yoshida is the sound director.

The late Yoshinobu Nishizaki is credited for the original work, with his son Shลji Nishizaki serving as chief production supervisor and copyright chief supervisor. Akira Miyagawa and Shล Kanematsu are composing the music, with Hiroshi Miyagawa also receiving credit for his contributions to the original Space Battleship Yamato series.

The new project is a sequel to the Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage Part II: Stasha film, which opened in February 2022.
