The narrative resumes with episode 19, diving deeper into the exhilarating world of kaiju and humans. The second season kicked off on July 19, broadcasting not just on TV Tokyo but also on global platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), where it streams in real-time with Japanese broadcasts. Additionally, Crunchyroll is offering the season with both English subtitles and an English dub. A special side story episode, “Hoshina’s Day Off,” aired on Japanese TV on July 5 and streamed simultaneously worldwide on X.
The season welcomes new cast members, bringing fresh energy to the storyline. Viewers can look forward to the opening theme song, “You Can’t Run From Yourself,” performed by the talented Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora. OneRepublic, who sang the ending theme for the first season, returns with “Beautiful Colors” for the second season.
Fans eager for more can catch Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon, a compilation film of the first season, which hit 32 theaters in Japan for three weeks starting on March 28. This film features the original episode “Hoshina’s Day Off” as an exclusive addition.
The anime’s first season premiered on TV Tokyo in April 2024 and ran for 12 episodes. Concurrently, the series aired on X in real-time, aligning perfectly with the Japanese TV broadcasts.
The manga, a cornerstone of the anime, is published by Viz Media in both digital and physical formats. Internationally, Shueisha offers the manga on its MANGA Plus service, where it is known as Monster #8. The story revolves around its protagonist who, after an unusual transformation, finds himself on a journey to fulfill his long-held dreams.
Keeping the manga’s origin story in mind, Naoya Matsumoto first launched Kaiju No. 8 on the Shonen Jump+ website in July 2020, which has since garnered a significant fanbase.
