The anime made its debut with a unique premièring format, where it aired a one-hour special first episode on Tokyo MX on March 3. Subsequent episodes hit the air on BS Fuji and MBS on April 1, transitioning to regular timeslots from April 7. A consistent airing schedule will see the anime span two consecutive quarters of the year.
Fans of the series can stream episodes thanks to HIDIVE, which makes them available each Monday at 11:00 a.m. EDT. The platform recently had to air an incomplete version of the 21st episode due to production snags.
The anime’s journey has been marked by delays. Initially scheduled for July 2024, it was postponed to June, and later to 2025 due to ongoing production challenges and the adjustment of plots.
The captivating story follows Jinta, voiced by Taku Yashiro, and his sister Suzune, voiced by Reina Ueda, who find themselves chasing a relentless demon across time. Alongside them is Shirayuki, brought to life by Saori Hayami. Kazuya Aiura, an acclaimed director known for his work on Assassins Pride and Hori-san to Miyamura-kun (OAV), leads the creative team at Yokohama Animation Lab. Working closely with him is Deko Akao, who handles the scripts, while Tarō Ikegami is responsible for character design. The soundtrack is crafted by the talented trio from MONACA—Ryuuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa, and Kuniyuki Takahashi.
Seven Seas Entertainment is publishing the novel series and its manga adaptation in English. The tale revolves around Jinta and Suzune, who must escape their home in the Edo era and face their destiny as powerful swordsmen tasked with protecting a sacred shrine. The rivalry unravels as the symbolic demon resurfaces in the current epoch, making a timeline-spanning narrative about confrontation and redemption come to life.
Moto’o Nakanishi, the ingenious author behind the series, kickstarted the adventure in 2019 with the novel’s first volume, featuring artwork by Tamaki. The final volume, the 14th, was released in November 2023. Meanwhile, the manga adaptation, illustrated by Yu Satomi, began its journey in September 2021 and continues to be serialized in the Monthly Action magazine, with the eighth volume hitting the shelves in March.
