The latest release of Feel Young magazine has announced the final chapter of Moyoco Anno’s Go Happy Mania, marking the conclusion of the beloved manga sequel. The series will reach its climax on October 8, wrapping up the journey of its protagonists.
This continuation of the original Happy Mania story began serialization in Feel Young back in September 2019. Shodensha released the first collected volume in 2020, with the series reaching its fifth compiled book just last August.
Prior to the current sequel, Anno revisited her characters in 2017 with a special one-shot chapter exploring the troubled marriage of Shigeta and Takahashi. The ongoing Go Happy Mania picked up from this point, expanding on their complicated relationship.
The inaugural Happy Mania manga entertained readers between 1995 and 2001 through Feel Young’s pages. Tokyopop brought all 11 English volumes to international audiences, introducing readers to its unconventional romantic premise:
Shigeta is an attractive and “physically active” female looking for her soulmate in all the wrong places. In this day and age, love is a game people play to gain an advantage over others. Sincerity and honesty are often thrown by the wayside in an effort to get to the top. However, there are those – like Shigeta – who still look for true love in spite of it all.
Anno’s diverse bibliography includes Flowers and Bees released by Viz Media, Del Rey’s Sugar Sugar Rune, and Vertical’s Sakuran. The artist also contributed character designs for the live-action Cutie Honey film directed by her husband Hideaki Anno.
Additional anime adaptations of Anno’s works include Japan Animator Expo’s 2015 short based on Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen. More recently, July 2025 saw a special 20th anniversary anime short for Sugar Sugar Rune, serving as both a celebration and prelude to new animated projects in development.
