Detective Conan Films to Stream Exclusively on YouTube This Month
Fans of the beloved detective series are in for a treat this month. TMS Entertainment has announced an exciting campaign called “Detective Conan: Cinema Saturdays.” This initiative will feature three exclusive movie screenings, each airing on a Saturday at 10:00 p.m. EDT, on the “Anime! on TMS” YouTube channel.
The recent success of the channel’s streaming efforts has set the stage for this new venture. Over the past three weeks, the channel has streamed “Detective Conan: The Eleventh Striker,” “Detective Conan: The Fourteenth Target,” and “Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea,” captivating audiences with these thrilling adventures.
In addition to the movie screenings, TMS Entertainment has been actively expanding the accessibility of the “Detective Conan” series. On July 3, the company began streaming a curated selection of episodes from the anime on Crunchyroll and Netflix. These episodes are available in Japanese with a new English dub, marking the first time this dub has been featured on Crunchyroll. The initial batch of episodes, titled “Conan vs. The Black Organization,” includes episodes that have never before been available in the U.S. The collection was further expanded on August 21 with additional episodes.
The enthusiasm for “Detective Conan” was also evident at this year’s Anime Expo, where TMS screened the U.S. premiere of “Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine,” the 26th film in the franchise. This event highlighted the ongoing popularity and cultural impact of the series.
The “Detective Conan” manga, created by Gōshō Aoyama, has been a staple in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine since 1994. The manga has inspired a long-running television anime series that began in January 1996, as well as a series of accompanying anime films. Viz Media publishes the original manga under the name “Case Closed,” using the same English names from the original Funimation dub when applicable and the original Japanese names otherwise.
The manga series follows Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, who was poisoned and shrunk to a child’s size at the beginning of the story. Alongside detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan solves complex mysteries, providing both entertainment and intellectual stimulation for readers and viewers alike.
The latest film in the franchise, “Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback,” opened at #1 at the Japanese box office on April 18, further cementing the series’ enduring popularity.
