Set in the Bakumatsu era in Kyoto, the anime follows a soldier who has lost his memories. This soldier is aided by the renowned Shinsengumi member Sōji Okita, who names him Jinsuke Tachikawa. Jinsuke’s life takes a new turn as he becomes part of the Mibu soldiers.
The original story is crafted by Yutaka Narui and Aniplex, with cooperation from Azuki Mashiba. The anime is directed by Tomohiro Kawamura at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. Narui is also responsible for the scripts, while Fumi Ebina handles the character design. The music is composed by Shigeru Kishida.
Narui, a playwright and founder of the theatrical troupe Caramel Box, has a rich history of working on stage plays themed around the Shinsengumi. Although one of his plays shares the same title as the anime, the writing style differs, and the anime is considered an original project.
