Exclusive Early Screenings for “Chainsaw Man: The Movie โ Reze Arc” Announced
Fans of the hit manga and anime series “Chainsaw Man” have reason to celebrate. Crunchyroll has revealed that there will be exclusive early screenings for “Chainsaw Man: The Movie โ Reze Arc” on October 22 in the U.S. These screenings are reserved for Crunchyroll Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan members. Fandango has provided a list of participating theaters where these screenings will take place.
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has secured the worldwide theatrical rights for the film. The company will release the movie in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on October 24, a few days ahead of its initially planned October 29 debut. Additionally, there will be RealD 3D screenings available. The film will also open in the U.K. on October 29 and has already been screened in over 80 countries on September 24.
In Japan, the film opened on September 19 in 421 theaters, with midnight screenings in major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido. The movie is also available in MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema formats. The distributor, TOHO, anticipates that the film could earn approximately 5 billion yen (about US$34 million) during its theatrical run.
The film made a significant impact in Japan, debuting at the top of the box office and surpassing “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai,” which had held the number one spot for nine consecutive weeks. As of October 5, the film has sold 1.96 million tickets and grossed 2,989,518,900 yen (about US$20.19 million). On its opening day alone, it sold over 272,000 tickets, generating over 420 million yen (about US$2.8 million).
Reina Ueda stars as Reze in the film. The story revolves around Denji, who has become “Chainsaw Man,” a boy with a devil’s heart and part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima, Denji seeks shelter from the rain and encounters Reze, a cafรฉ worker.
The film features an impressive soundtrack with performances by Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada. Yonezu is also performing the theme song “IRIS OUT,” while Maximum The Hormone’s “Hawatari Nioku Centi” appears as an insert song. The film includes a special version of this track, “Hawatari Nioku Centi (Zentai Suitei 70% Kaikin edit),” which was previously featured in the television anime series.
The television anime series premiered on TV Tokyo and other affiliated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video, in October 2022. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of “Chainsaw Man,” debuted the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018. The first part, the “Kลan” (Public Safety) arc, concluded in December 2020. The second part, titled “Gakkล-hen” (School Arc), began serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service in July 2022. The manga has sold over 30 million copies and has won the Best Manga award at The Harvey Awards for three consecutive years.
