The creative team behind the first season is reuniting to bring the sequel to life. Yuichiro Hayashi, known for his work on Garo the Animation, Garo: Divine Flame, and Kakegurui, will return to direct the new season at MAPPA. Tomohiro Kishi, who designed the characters for the first season, will also be back in the same role. The new season was initially scheduled to debut in 2025, but the delay has only heightened the anticipation among fans.
The original manga, published in English by Viz Media, tells the story of a grim city known as “the Hole,” where a clan of Sorcerers conducts horrific experiments on kidnapped individuals. The protagonist, Caiman, a man with a reptile head and memory loss, teams up with Nikaido to hunt down and kill the Sorcerers in hopes of reversing the spell that transformed him. Their quest ignites a war between two worlds, making for a gripping and intense narrative.
The first season of Dorohedoro, directed by Yuichiro Hayashi at MAPPA, featured a stellar cast of creators. Hiroshi Seko, known for his work on Banana Fish, Mob Psycho 100, and Vinland Saga, handled the series scripts. Tomohiro Kishi, who also worked on 91 Days and Garo -Vanishing Line-, designed the characters. The music for the first season was composed by [K]NoW_NAME, who also worked on Sakura Quest and Fairy gone.
The first season of Dorohedoro debuted on Netflix in Japan in January 2020, consisting of 12 episodes. The streaming giant later made the season available outside Japan in May 2020, expanding the series’ reach to a global audience.
