The production team behind the upcoming television anime adaptation of Umikaze Minamino’s light novel series “Kunon the Sorcerer Can See Through” has released an exciting new teaser trailer. The trailer, unveiled on a Friday, provides a sneak peek into the anime’s staff, introduces a new cast member, and confirms the premiere date for January 2026.
The trailer features Akari Kitō, who joins the cast as Mirika, the ninth princess and Kunon’s fiancée. The visuals and voice acting in the trailer hint at the rich storytelling and character development that fans can expect from the series.
The anime will be directed by Hideaki Ōba, known for his work on “Love of Kill,” “I’m in Love with the Villainess,” and “Our Dating Story: The Experienced You and The Inexperienced Me.” The series’ scripts will be written and supervised by Yuki Enatsu, who has previously worked on “Unlimited Fafnir,” “Tight-rope,” and “Saint October.” Character designs will be handled by Yōko Satō and Toshimitsu Kobayashi, both of whom have extensive experience in the industry. The music for the anime will be composed by Shunsuke Takizawa of TRYTONELABO.
The anime will air on Tokyo MX, BS Asahi, and WOWOW in January 2026. Saori Hayami will voice the protagonist, Kunon Gurion, while Maaya Uchida will voice Kunon’s maid, Iko Round.
The light novel series, originally published by Yen Press, follows the story of Kunon, who was born blind but aims to use water magic to create new eyes for himself. After surpassing his teacher in just five months, Kunon’s talents attract the attention of the court, earning him a spot as a disciple to the most powerful magician in the land. The story explores Kunon’s journey and the challenges he faces in achieving his ultimate goal.
Minamino launched the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in August 2021, and it has since gained significant popularity, topping the general yearly ranking on the platform in August 2022. Kadokawa began releasing compiled novel volumes for the series in March 2022, with illustrations by Laruha. The seventh volume was released on March 10.
Additionally, a manga adaptation by La-na began serialization in Kadokawa’s Comic Alive magazine in April 2022. The sixth manga volume was released on May 22, with the seventh volume scheduled for December 23.
