In an exciting announcement at New York Comic Con, Aniplex of America revealed the theatrical release date and the English dub cast for “Clockwork Girl,” the inaugural installment in director Yasuomi Umetsu and animation studio SHAFT’s original anime series, “Virgin Punk.” This eagerly anticipated film is set to hit theaters across the United States on November 11 and 13, offering viewers both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dub.
The screenings will also feature an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the anime, providing fans with an unprecedented glimpse into the making of this captivating series. Tickets for these special screenings are now available for purchase.
The story of “Clockwork Girl” unfolds in the year 2099, where humanity has advanced to the point of overcoming all injuries and illnesses through the development of the Medical Android Technology known as Somadea. However, this technological marvel has also given rise to a surge in crimes involving the misuse of Somadea. To combat these illegal activities, the government has established the Bounty Hunter System, allowing civilians to hunt down and eliminate wanted criminals in exchange for substantial bounty money.
In this harsh world, Ubu Kamigori, a skilled bounty hunter, navigates the dangers of her profession. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she returns home from a job to find Mr. Elegance, a man from her past, waiting for her. This encounter sets the stage for a thrilling tale of mechanical girls and the scent of gunpowder, as suspense and action intertwine.
The film’s Japanese cast members bring depth and intensity to their roles, while the English dub cast promises to deliver a performance that resonates with American audiences. “Clockwork Girl” made its theatrical debut in Japan on June 27, opening at #1 in the mini-theater rankings at Cine Libre Ikebukuro in Tokyo and Theatre Umeda in Osaka.
Yasuomi Umetsu, known for his work on “Kite,” “Mezzo,” “Girl’s High,” and the film “Kiss and Cry,” is directing the anime at SHAFT and is also responsible for the character designs. Yuya Takahashi, renowned for his work on “Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible” and “Lupin III: Part IV,” is handling the series composition and script. The main animators include Gen’ichirou Abe, known for his work on “Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu,” Shinya Takahashi, who contributed to “Battle Angel,” and Maho Kando, who worked on “Josee, The Tiger and the Fish.”
The film’s unique blend of suspense, action, and intricate storytelling is sure to captivate audiences and solidify its place as a standout in the anime genre.
