The highly anticipated film adaptation of the Reze Arc from the popular manga “Chainsaw Man” has released a new promotional video. This video features the full version of the insert song “Hawatari Nioku Centi (Zentai Suitei 70% Kaikin edit),” which translates to “2-Hundred-Million-Centimeter-Long-Blades – Estimated 70% Unredacted Edit.” This song was previously featured in a shorter version as the ending theme for episode 3 of the television anime series. The band had held back the full version due to lyrics that reference the character Reze.
The film, titled “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc,” has been a massive success in Japan, selling 3.55 million tickets and grossing 5.4 billion yen (approximately US$35.4 million) in its first 24 days of screening. It opened in 421 theaters across Japan on September 19 and had midnight screenings in 12 theaters in major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido. The film is also available in MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema formats, enhancing the viewing experience with immersive technology.
The distributor, TOHO, projects that the film could earn 5 billion yen (about US$34 million) over its entire theatrical run. The film opened at number one, displacing “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai,” which had held the top spot for nine consecutive weeks. On its opening day, “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” sold over 272,000 tickets, generating over 420 million yen (about US$2.8 million) in revenue.
Crunchyroll has announced early screenings of the film in the U.S. for its Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan members on October 22. Additionally, Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired worldwide theatrical rights to the film. It will open in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on October 24, several days earlier than its originally scheduled October 29 release. There will also be RealD 3D screenings available. The film is set to open in the U.K. on October 29 and has already screened in more than 80 countries on September 24.
Reina Ueda voices the character Reze in the film. The story picks up after Denji, now known as “Chainsaw Man,” goes on a date with Makima. Seeking shelter from the rain, he encounters Reze, a girl who works in a café.
Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada are performing the ending theme song “JANE DOE.” Yonezu is also performing the film’s theme song “IRIS OUT.”
The television anime series premiered on TV Tokyo and five other affiliated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video, in October 2022. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of “Chainsaw Man,” debuted the manga in “Weekly Shonen Jump” in December 2018. The second part, titled “Gakkō-hen” (School Arc), began serialization on Shueisha’s “Shonen Jump+” service in July 2022.
