The anime will be directed by Hiro Kaburagi, known for his work on Great Pretender, Hozuki’s Coolheadedness, and My Little Monster. The character designs will be handled by Miho Daidōji, who previously worked on the animation direction for the three seasons of Kuroko’s Basketball and the film Last Game.
This anime marks the first television series for the animation studio CUE. The studio was established in 2023 by the internet service and game developer DMM, in collaboration with former Production I.G executive officer and production manager Rui Kuroki, who serves as the president and CEO.
The manga, created by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in April 2023 and concluded on September 1. The 12th volume of the manga is scheduled to be released on November 4. Additionally, the manga will receive a novel adaptation titled Kill Ao Secret Report by Kiyoko Hoshi, which will be released on December 4, coinciding with the publication of the manga’s 13th and final compiled book volume.
Viz Media is publishing the manga both digitally and in print. The first volume introduces Juzo Ogami, a legendary hitman who wakes up as a teenager and must navigate the unfamiliar territory of school to uncover the truth behind his transformation.
Viz Media released the third volume in print on October 14. Additionally, MANGA Plus is also releasing the manga digitally.
Fujimaki previously serialized the Kuroko’s Basketball manga in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2008 to 2014. This manga inspired three television anime series, two compilation anime films, a new anime film, a sequel manga, a light novel, a spinoff manga, and a series of stage plays. Viz Media also published the Kuroko’s Basketball manga in English.
Fujimaki published a one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2020 and another “academy comedy action” one-shot manga titled “Kiruaoharu” in December 2021.
