Yen Press is bringing the light novel series to English-speaking audiences and describes the story as follows:

“A new light novel series from the creative team behind the legendary Date A Live. Saika Kuozaki is an all-powerful witch with looks to die for. She’s also the only woman who can thwart the mysterious entities attempting to destroy the world once every 300 hours. When Saika is mortally wounded, however, she bequeaths both her powers and body to the normal high school boy who happens upon her, Mushiki Kuga. But just because Mushiki has her abilities doesn’t mean he can control them. To stand a chance of saving the world, he’ll have to attend an academy for mages as Saikaโ€”all while keeping his identity under wraps!”

The light novel series was launched by Tachibana in 2021. Kadokawa released the eighth novel volume in Japan on August 20. Yen Press released the sixth light novel volume on June 3, and the seventh volume is scheduled for release on January 6.

Nemo Kurio launched a manga adaptation on Gangan Online in February 2023. Square Enix released the sixth and final volume on March 12.

Tachibana also launched the original Date A Live light novel series in March 2011 with illustrations by Tsunako. Kadokawa’s Fantasia Bunko imprint published the 22nd and final volume in March 2020. Yen Press is releasing the novels in English.

The novel series has inspired several manga and video games, as well as five anime seasons and an anime film. Date A Live V premiered in April 2024. A new anime project for the franchise was announced in April.

Yuichiro Higashide’s Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet spinoff novels inspired a two-part theatrical anime adaptation in 2020.
