Revitalizing a Classic: The Return of “Fist of the North Star”
Fans of classic anime are in for a treat as the original 1984 television series and its sequel are now available for streaming with English subtitles.
Crunchyroll has announced the addition of the iconic 1984 TV anime based on the legendary manga “Fist of the North Star” by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. Alongside it, the platform is also streaming the sequel anime, “Fist of the North Star 2.” All 152 episodes are now accessible in Japanese with English subtitles, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the post-apocalyptic world of Kenshiro.
The story unfolds in a desolate, nuclear-wrecked landscape where Kenshiro, a master of the deadly martial art Hokuto Shinken, roams the wasteland. His mission is to protect the vulnerable from the tyranny of ruthless thugs. Throughout his journey, Kenshiro encounters formidable opponents, including his rival and self-proclaimed king of the new world, Raoh.
The original “Fist of the North Star” television series aired from 1984 to 1988, spanning two seasons and 152 episodes. The manga, which ran from 1983 to 1988 in Weekly Shonen Jump, has inspired numerous adaptations, including other television series, films, and spin-off anime.
The manga’s enduring popularity has led to the creation of a new anime series, “Hokuto no Ken -Fist of the North Star-,” set to debut in 2026. This new project marks the 40th anniversary of the series and promises to stay true to the original work with a CG-based format.
