The film is set to hit Japanese theaters on Friday, following a successful screening at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival. This event has already generated significant buzz, with audiences eager to experience the cinematic adaptation of Ishii’s beloved novel.

The cast features Ae! group member Masaya Sano as Giuseppe and Moka Kamishiraishi as Pechka. Both actors will also lend their voices to the film’s soundtrack, with Sano and Kamishiraishi performing “Fanfare ~Koi ni Ukarete~,” an in-movie version of the theme song, as their respective characters. Additionally, Awesome City Club member atagi is making his debut as a contributor to a film’s soundtrack, providing five songs and part of the background music for “Toritsukare Otoko.”

Wataru Takahashi, known for directing several “Crayon Shin-chan” films, is at the helm of this project at Shinei Animation. The script is penned by Naoyuki Miura, while Masatsugu Arakawa, renowned for his work on “Windy Tales” and “Medabots Spirit,” is responsible for the character designs. The film is being distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Originally published in 2001, Ishii’s novel revolves around Giuseppe, a man known in his town as the “Obsessed Man.” His tendency to become fixated on various things for short periods often leads him to neglect everything else. One day, he encounters Pechka, a balloon seller, and falls in love at first sight. Despite his efforts to get closer to her, Pechka’s hidden sadness keeps him at a distance. With the help of his mouse friend Cielo, Giuseppe uses his past obsessions to gradually win Pechka’s heart.
