The Extended Saga of Kill Bill: A Bloody Affair
Fans of the iconic Kill Bill series are in for a treat as Lionsgate unveiled a trailer for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. This extended director’s cut, helmed by Quentin Tarantino, includes an additional seven minutes of animation from the renowned studio Production I.G. The new footage, which can be glimpsed in the trailer starting around the 1:19 mark, promises to enhance the already thrilling narrative.
Lionsgate has announced that Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair will hit U.S. theaters on December 5, marking its first wide release. The screenings will feature both 70mm and 35mm film prints, ensuring an authentic cinematic experience for viewers.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is a comprehensive, 247-minute compilation of the original Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (released in 2003) and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (released in 2004). The extended version incorporates seven additional minutes of animation by Production I.G., seamlessly integrated by Tarantino to enrich the viewing experience.
The character designs for the new animation were crafted by Katsuhito Ishii and ShÅ« Tajima. Production I.G., known for their work on Ghost in the Shell and Miss Hokusai, brought these designs to life in the original “Kill Bill Chapter 3: The Origin of O-Ren” sequence featured in the first volume of Kill Bill.
The director’s cut of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, screening out of competition. In 2011, the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles hosted a special screening of the extended cut, which sold out for four consecutive days.
