The highly anticipated second season of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is set to premiere on January 16. Fans of the anime can look forward to a new trailer that has been released, offering a sneak peek into the upcoming episodes. The trailer showcases the ending theme song “The Story of Us,” performed by milet, who also sang the ending theme for the first season.
The second season will air on Fridays at 11:00 p.m. JST as part of “Friday Anime Night” on NTV. For international viewers, Crunchyroll will stream the series worldwide, excluding Asia but including India and the Indian subcontinent.
The creative team behind the second season includes several notable changes. Tomoya Kitagawa, who directed episodes 2, 8, and 25 of the first season, will take over as the director. Keiichiro Saito, the director of the first season, will now provide director support. Daiki Harashina, who directed episode 3 of the first season, will serve as the assistant director. Tomohiro Suzuki returns for series composition, while Takasemaru and Keisuke Kojima will handle character design. Yuri Fujinaka will also contribute as a chief animation director. Seiko Yoshioka returns for concept art, and Evan Call will compose the soundtrack. Madhouse will once again animate the series.
The first season of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” premiered with a two-hour special in September 2023 and ran for two consecutive cours until March 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired and also provided an English dub. The manga, licensed by Viz Media, tells the story of an elf mage named Frieren who, after defeating the Demon King, embarks on a new journey to understand the meaning of life and fulfill the last wishes of her comrades.
Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe launched the manga in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. The series has since gone on hiatus multiple times, with the latest indefinite hiatus starting on October 22. Despite these pauses, the manga has exceeded 30 million copies in circulation worldwide.
