In the heart of a post-apocalyptic world, a new anime short is set to captivate audiences with its unique blend of humor and survival. The official website for the upcoming short anime adaptation of Hiroshi Kurao’s spinoff manga, “Fist of the North Star: Elegy of Ken-Oh’s Army Grunts,” has revealed the staff and premiere date.
Takuma Hase and Yuma Saito are taking on the roles of technical directors and editors at Do-Raku for this project. Daisuke Miura will serve as the animation director, while Mirai Iwai will handle the art direction and color keying. Sayoko Ito will be the compositing director of photography, and Seiji Miura will compose the music, setting the tone for this gritty yet comedic tale.
The anime is scheduled to debut on January 5, airing on AT-X and Tokyo MX. Fans can look forward to a cast that includes Hiro Shimono as Nobu, Shinnosuke Ogami as Zaku, Masaaki Yano as Buzz, and Shinya Takahashi as the narrator. The tagline, “Three daily meals included, company room and board, no experience necessary!” sets the stage for a story where survival is a daily challenge.
Set in the year 199X, after a nuclear apocalypse, the protagonist Nobu joins Ken-Oh’s army as a grunt. The comedy unfolds as Nobu navigates a workplace where deaths outnumber job applicants, testing his endurance and resilience.
The manga, which this anime is based on, launched on Coamix’s Manga Hot app in November 2017 and concluded in February 2020. The third and final compiled book volume was released in March 2020.
The original “Fist of the North Star” manga by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara is also inspiring a new anime next year, continuing the legacy of this iconic series.
