Unveiling the Mysteries of Kaguya: A Comprehensive Guide

Kaguya

The beloved anime series “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” has concluded its latest television special, “Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Otona e no Kaidan” (The Steps to Become an Adult), with an exciting announcement. Fans were thrilled to learn that a brand-new film is in the works, set to serve as the grand finale to the overall story. The original manga creator, Aka Akasaka, has crafted a unique and original story concept exclusively for this film, ensuring that it stands apart from the existing manga and anime adaptations.

Akasaka revealed that the upcoming film is not merely an adaptation of the manga but a completely new work created by the entire anime team. The project was initiated about four years ago, and Akasaka described it as “new, but nostalgic,” hinting at a blend of fresh content and familiar elements that fans have come to love.

Viz Media is responsible for publishing Aka Akasaka’s original manga in English. The story revolves around two brilliant students, Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, who are both members of their prestigious academy’s student council. Despite their mutual admiration, their pride prevents them from confessing their feelings first, leading to a series of clever schemes to outmaneuver each other.

The manga series began in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump magazine in May 2015 and later moved to Young Jump in March 2016. It entered its final arc in October 2021 and concluded in November 2022. The first television anime adaptation premiered in January 2019 and consisted of 12 episodes. Aniplex of America streamed the series on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and FunimationNow, and also released it on Blu-ray Disc.

The second season of the anime, “Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2,” debuted in April 2020. Funimation streamed the series as it aired in Japan and also provided English dubs for both seasons. An original video anime (OVA) project was released in May 2021.

The third season of the anime premiered in April 2022. Aniplex of America hosted an advanced screening in the U.S. that month at the Aratani Theater in Los Angeles and at Japan Society in New York.

Additionally, the anime film “Kaguya-sama: Love is War -The First Kiss That Never Ends-,” which adapts the manga’s story arc of the same name, opened in Japan on December 17, 2022.
