TMS Entertainment, a leading Japanese anime production company, revealed on Thursday that it has forged a business alliance with R. Animation, a Taiwanese animation studio. This partnership aims to foster collaboration on anime production and the exchange of production knowledge and techniques.

TMS Entertainment’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to address the challenges posed by the aging of veteran animators and the shortage of animator manpower within the industry. By establishing stronger partnerships both domestically and internationally, TMS hopes to enhance its animator training efforts and create a more stable production pipeline.

R. Animation, founded in 2018, is headquartered in Taipei and boasts a core team of over 40 members. The studio specializes in hand-drawn animation, adhering to the styles and methods of the Japanese anime industry. R. Animation is equipped to handle various aspects of production, including key art, in-betweens, finishing, line production, storyboarding, design, and post-production. The studio has notably collaborated with CloverWorks on key animation for popular anime series such as My Dress-Up Darling, Spy×Family, The Elusive Samurai, trapezium, UniteUp!, and Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc. Additionally, R. Animation has contributed to key animation for One Piece, COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, takt op. Destiny, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II, as well as the background art for the opening and ending credits of Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig.

TMS Entertainment, originally established in 1946 as Tokyo Movie, ventured into the animation business in 1964 and was later known as Tokyo Movie Shinsha. The company has a rich history of producing long-running anime series, including Detective Conan, Soreike! Anpanman, and various series within the Lupin III franchise. Notably, Ghibli co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata previously worked on Tokyo Movie Shinsha anime projects. In 2005, Sega Sammy Holdings acquired a controlling stake in TMS Entertainment, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2010.

This partnership between TMS Entertainment and R. Animation marks a significant step forward in the anime industry, promising innovative collaborations and a shared commitment to excellence in animation.
