Urban Legends Come to Life: The “Horror Collector” Anime Adaptation

In an exciting announcement, NHK revealed that the popular “Horror Collector” novel series by Midori Sato is set to be adapted into a television anime. The “Horror Collector” series is a unique blend of horror and mystery, centering around a boy in a red hood who travels from town to town, appearing wherever strange and supernatural events occur. The novels, written by Sato, are supervised by Norio Tsuruta and feature artwork by Yon. This trio has created a world where the line between reality and legend is blurred, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

Yen Press is bringing the “Horror Collector” series to English-speaking audiences through its “JY for Kids” middle-grade imprint. The story delves into the dark corners of the internet, where creepypastas, cryptid sightings, and tales of paranormal activity abound. While many of these stories are mere rumors and pranks, some unlucky individuals discover that certain legends are all too real. The boy in the red hood serves as a beacon of hope, roaming the land to aid those caught in the web of these urban legends. But is he a savior or a harbinger of more terrifying truths?

The novel series began its publication journey in June 2015, with the 26th volume released on June 11. The 27th volume is set to hit the shelves on December 10. Additionally, Niko Yuki’s manga adaptation, which ran in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Gene magazine in 2021-2022, was compiled into a single volume in March 2022. Yen Press has also published the sixth novel volume on May 20 and the manga in one volume on May 27.

The anticipation for this anime adaptation is high, as fans eagerly await the chance to see their favorite urban legends brought to life on screen. With NHK at the helm, the “Horror Collector” anime is poised to deliver a thrilling and chilling experience that will keep viewers hooked from start to finish.
