Anime Death Game Series Shiboyugi Premieres January 7 with New Cast Revealed

The upcoming anime series, “SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table,” has generated significant buzz with its recent announcements. During the Fall School Festival 2025 livestream, Kadokawa unveiled a new promotional video and introduced five additional cast members, further building anticipation for the show.

The series, based on the light novel by Yushi Ukai and illustrated by Nekometal, will make its debut on January 7. The premiere episode will be a special 60-minute feature, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense and thrilling experience.

The opening theme song, “Not Ersterbend,” will be performed by LIN from MADKID, adding an exciting musical element to the series.

The anime will air on Tokyo MX at 11:00 p.m. on January 7, with subsequent episodes starting at 11:30 p.m. It will also be available on ABC TV and WOWOW, with streaming options on Netflix and other platforms in Japan.

The series is directed by Sota Ueno at Studio DEEN, with Rintarou Ikeda handling series composition and Eri Osada designing the characters. Noriyoshi Konuma will serve as the sound director, ensuring a high-quality audio experience.

The story revolves around Yuuki, a professional death game player who finds herself in a manor filled with lethal traps and deadly games. As she navigates this perilous environment, she must use her skills to survive and escape, all while uncovering the dark secrets of the manor.

Kadokawa’s MF Bunko J imprint published the first volume of the light novel series in November 2022, which won the Excellence Award at the 18th MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award. The series has since gained significant popularity, ranking #1 in the New Title category of Takarajimasha’s 2024 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings.

Additionally, a manga adaptation by Banzai Kotobuki Daienkai began in Kadokawa’s Comp Ace magazine in April 2023, with the fourth volume released in September 2025 and the fifth volume scheduled for January 23, 2026.

Chiyuki Miura stars in the anime as Yuuki.
