The Obsessed: A Musical Anime Film Unveils Giuseppe’s Anthem
The countdown to the release of The Obsessed has begun, with the musical anime film set to hit Japanese theaters on November 7. Fans of the original novel by Shinji Ishii are in for a treat as the story of Giuseppe, the man with an insatiable curiosity, comes to life on the big screen.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has released an enticing clip from the film, showcasing the protagonist Giuseppe’s signature song, “Giuseppe’s Theme.” This track beautifully encapsulates Giuseppe’s unique lifestyle, where he becomes easily infatuated with new passions, often to the exclusion of everything else.

Masaya Sano, a member of the Ae! group, brings Giuseppe to life with his captivating performance. He will also lend his voice to the film’s soundtrack, singing alongside Moka Kamishiraishi, who plays Pechka. The soundtrack will feature contributions from atagi, a member of Awesome City Club, who is making his debut as a film soundtrack contributor with five original songs, including the film’s theme song, “Fanfare.”
The talented team behind the film includes director Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on the Crayon Shin-chan films, and scriptwriter Naoyuki Miura, who has worked on notable projects like Fujoshi and Ukkari Gay ni Kokuru. Character design is handled by Masatsugu Arakawa, renowned for his work on Windy Tales and Medabots Spirit. The film is being produced by Shinei Animation and distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks.
The story of The Obsessed revolves around Giuseppe, a man known in his town as the “Obsessed Man.” His life is marked by brief but intense obsessions with various things, during which he ignores everything else. His world changes when he encounters Pechka, a balloon seller, and falls in love at first sight. Despite his efforts to get closer to her, Pechka’s hidden sadness keeps him at a distance. With the help of his friend Cielo, Giuseppe uses his past obsessions to gradually win Pechka’s heart.
The film will make its debut at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival, adding to the anticipation and excitement surrounding its release.
