Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 Anime’s Teaser Highlights Unstoppable New Enemy – Anime

The official website for the upcoming anime Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 (the next installment in the Space Battleship Yamato remakes) unveiled a new teaser trailer for the project’s first film, Kuro no Shinryaku (Dark Invasion).

The trailer offers a glimpse of a mysterious giant object named “Grand Rebirth” hurtling towards Earth. An ominous message compels the scattered crew of the legendary spaceship Yamato to reunite.

New Crew and Creative Staff Assemble for the Films

The upcoming anime series will be a seven-part film series, kicking off with Kuro no Shinryaku hitting theaters on July 19th, 2024. The new films boast a fresh cast and creative team, including Naomichi Yamato (director of episodes for From the New World and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) at the helm. Harutoshi Fukui reprises his roles as head writer, scriptwriter, and supervising director for this iteration. Hideki Oka returns as co-writer, while Nobuteru Yuki remains the character designer.

Returning and Newcomers on the Production Team

Junichirō Tamamori, Mika Akitaka, and Yasushi Ishizu contribute mechanical designs. Hiroyuki Goto takes the reins as CG producer, with Shōsuke Uechi credited as CG director. Tomohiro Yoshida serves as the sound director.

Legacy Creators Honored

The original work is credited to the late producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki, with his son Shōji Nishizaki taking charge as chief production supervisor and copyright chief supervisor. The musical score will be a collaboration between Akira Miyagawa and Shu Kanematsu (known for composing for series like My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! and The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses). The late Hiroshi Miyagawa, Akira Miyagawa’s father and the original Space Battleship Yamato composer, is also credited for music contributions.

Story Follows Previous Anime, Clarification on Timeline

Harutoshi Fukui confirmed the return of the Garmillas remnant empire, previously seen in Space Battleship Yamato III (Uchū Senkan Yamato 3) and Final Yamato. The complete project will span 26 episodes. Later, Fukui clarified that despite the film title indicating the year 3199, the story begins in 2207 and won’t immediately jump to that point in the timeline.

Successor to Space Battleship Yamato 2205

Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 serves as the sequel to the February 2022 film, Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage Part II: Stasha (Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi – Kōshō -STASHA-).

Distinguishing New Project from Past Works
