The highly anticipated film, Chainsaw Man โ The Movie: Reze Arc, is set to hit U.S. theaters on October 24. This cinematic adaptation of the Reze Arc from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular manga, Chainsaw Man, will be available in RealD 3D screenings, offering an immersive experience for fans.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has secured worldwide theatrical rights for the film and will release it in the United States on October 24, a few days earlier than the initially planned October 29 date. The movie will also premiere in the United Kingdom on October 29, following its earlier screenings in over 80 countries on September 24.
In Japan, the film opened on September 19 in 421 theaters, with midnight screenings in major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido. The movie is also available in MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema formats. TOHO, the film’s distributor, anticipates that it could earn approximately 5 billion yen (around US$34 million) during its theatrical run.
Chainsaw Man โ The Movie: Reze Arc debuted at the top of the box office, displacing Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle โ Akaza Sairai, which had held the number one spot for nine consecutive weeks. As of the latest reports, the film has sold over 1.96 million tickets, generating a cumulative total of 2,989,518,900 yen (about US$20.19 million). On its opening day in Japan, the movie sold more than 272,000 tickets, earning over 420 million yen (approximately US$2.8 million).
The film stars Reina Ueda as Reze and is produced by MAPPA. The story follows Denji, who has become the “Chainsaw Man,” a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima, Denji seeks shelter from the rain and encounters Reze, a cafรฉ worker.
The film features an impressive soundtrack, with Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada performing the ending theme song “JANE DOE.” Kenshi Yonezu also performs the theme song “IRIS OUT.” Additionally, Maximum The Hormone’s “Hawatari Nioku Centi” (2-Hundred-Million-Centimeter-Long-Blades) is included as an insert song, with a special “Zentai Suitei 70% Kaikin edit” version.
The television anime series, Chainsaw Man, premiered on TV Tokyo and other affiliated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video, in October 2022. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Tatsuki Fujimoto debuted the Chainsaw Man manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018 and concluded its first part, the “Kลan” (Public Safety) arc, in December 2020. The manga’s second part, titled “Gakkล-hen” (School Arc), began serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service in July 2022. The manga has sold over 30 million copies and has won the Best Manga award at The Harvey Awards for three consecutive years.
