The latest installment in the Demon Slayer series, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle,” has shattered box office records worldwide. This cinematic adaptation of the popular manga series has captivated audiences globally, amassing an impressive 67,020,204 tickets sold. The film’s earnings have reached a staggering 82,359,480,810 yen, which translates to approximately $568 million USD.
In the United States alone, the film has sold 8.91 million tickets, generating over $100 million in revenue. Japan, the film’s home country, has seen an equally impressive response, with 23,727,443 tickets sold, amounting to 34,186,470,400 yen, or roughly $236 million USD, after just 67 days of release.
The film’s social media presence has also been a significant factor in its success. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the franchise revealed its sixth key visual on Tuesday, further fueling the excitement among fans.
Box Office Mojo reported that as of Sunday, the film’s estimated worldwide earnings had surpassed $555 million, making it the highest-earning anime film of all time. This milestone also positions it as the highest-earning Japanese film globally, surpassing even the likes of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Captain America: Brave New World.”
In the United States, the film earned $4,606,947 on Friday, $7,326,408 on Saturday, and $5,370,352 on Sunday, bringing its total earnings in the country to $104,733,741. This achievement makes it the highest-grossing anime film in the United States and the first to surpass the $100 million mark.
The film’s opening weekend in the U.S. was particularly noteworthy, with earnings of $70,611,098. This not only broke the record for the biggest opening weekend for an anime film but also surpassed the previous record when adjusted for inflation.
In Japan, the film has sold a total of 23,042,671 tickets, earning 33,056,606,000 yen, or approximately $224 million. This places it as the second highest-earning film of all time at the Japanese box office, surpassing the iconic “Spirited Away” by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
The previous film in the Demon Slayer franchise, “Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train,” remains the highest-earning film in Japan, with earnings of 40.75 billion yen, or about $277 million. It surpassed “Spirited Away” in December 2020, just two months after its release.
The film is directed by Haruo Sotozaki at ufotable, with the studio also credited for the screenplay. Aimer performs the song “Taiyō ga Noboranai Sekai” (“A World Where the Sun Never Rises”), while LiSA performs “Zankoku no Yoru ni Kagayake” (“Shine in the Cruel Night”).
