Discover Gunma’s Charm in the Latest Light Anime Teaser

The excitement is building for fans of the upcoming light anime adaptation of Hiroto Ida’s popular manga, “You Don’t Know Gunma Yet ~Reiwa Version~.” SKY PerfecTV!’s Tetsudล Channel has unveiled the theme song for this highly anticipated series in their second teaser promotional video, released on Saturday.

The teaser video offers a sneak peek of the theme song, “Jลmo Karuta ~Reiwa Version,” performed by Masayuki Deguchi. This song is a modern take on the traditional Japanese card game karuta, specifically the local Gunma variant known as Jลmo Karuta. The video sets the stage for what promises to be a delightful exploration of Gunma’s unique culture and charm.

The anime is set to premiere in January 2026 on SKY PerfecTV!’s Tetsudล Channel. The cast and production team are a mix of talented individuals who have contributed to other notable anime projects. Publishing and anime production company IMAGICA Infos is at the helm of producing the series.

Tetsuya Tatamitani, known for his work on “Africa Salaryman” and “Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord,” will be directing and composing the series. The script is being written by Kลhei Nakayama and Emi Saitล, while Akihito Masui is composing the music and Miura Tลko is directing the music. Kazuya Takahashi serves as the production supervisor.

The original comedy manga, “You Don’t Know Gunma Yet,” follows Nori Kamitsuki as he moves from Chiba Prefecture to a fictionalized version of Gunma Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo. The story delves into the rich culture of Gunma, which Kamitsuki initially perceives as fearsome based on online reputation. However, upon moving, he discovers the deep love and unique charm that the locals have for their prefecture.

Hiroto Ida launched the manga on Shinchosha’s manga website Kurage Bunch in October 2013 and concluded it in May 2019. The series was compiled into 11 volumes and inspired a 12-episode series of anime shorts that premiered in April 2018. The concept of “light anime” aims to create animation at a lower cost and on a more timely schedule compared to traditional animation production workflows. The Balloon label plans to produce four new titles in the 2026 fiscal year, with a goal of establishing a workflow capable of producing 10 or more projects a year by 2028.
