The much-anticipated “Sound! Euphonium” franchise is set to reach its grand finale with a new theatrical release. During the “KyoAni no Sekai-ten” (“Meet the Worlds of KyoAni”) event held on Sunday, Kyoto Animation revealed that the first part of “Sound! Kyoto Animation describes the film as the culmination of a decade-long journey, depicting the youth and dedication of high school students who devote themselves to the concert band. Following the emotional finale of “Sound! Euphonium 3,” which aired in 2024, the story reaches its true conclusion in 2026 with this long-awaited theatrical release.

The film will be led by Chief Director Tatsuya Ishihara, who has been a guiding force throughout the series, and Director Taichi Ogawa, a key member of the creative team. Alongside Kyoto Animation’s meticulous visual refinement, Jukki Hanada has crafted a new scenario, adding numerous scenes that were never shown in the TV series. The production team has worked tirelessly to ensure that this film lives up to its title, “The Final Movie Part 1.”

The anime will star a talented cast and crew, including Taichi Ogawa as the director, Tatsuya Ishihara as the chief director, and Jukki Hanada handling the script and series composition. Character designers Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda will bring the beloved characters to life, with Kazumi Ikeda also serving as the chief animation director. Akito Matsuda will compose the music, with support from Lantis, Heart Company, and Senzoku Gakuen College of Music.

The “Sound! Euphonium” franchise has a rich history, with the first 13-episode television series premiering in April 2015. This series inspired the “flashback” film “Gekijล-ban Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Kลkล Suisลgaku-Bu e Yลkoso,” which was released in April 2016. The sequel series, “Sound! Euphonium 2,” premiered in October 2016 and led to the compilation film “Gekijล-ban Hibike! Euphonium: Todoketai Melody” in September 2017.

The franchise continued to expand with the film “Liz and the Blue Bird,” which focused on Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki, opening in April 2018. “Sound! Euphonium The Movie – Our Promise: A Brand New Day” followed in April 2019, chronicling Kumiko’s journey as a second-year student. The theatrical anime “Tokubetsuhen Hibike! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest” opened in August 2023, adapting the “Ensemble Concert” arc and marking the first new sequel anime in four years for the franchise.

The third season of the anime premiered in April 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming the series in various regions as it aired in Japan. This season adapted Kumiko’s third year in high school, bringing the series to a close before the upcoming final film.
