The highly anticipated finale of the new “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt” anime is set to air on September 24, immediately following the 12th episode, in a thrilling hour-long special broadcast. This announcement was made by the series’ staff on Thursday, much to the delight of fans.
The anime’s “censored” version debuted on Tokyo MX, BS NTV, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, Mie Television Broadcasting, TVQ Broadcasting Kyushu, Gifu Broadcasting, and TV Hokkaido on July 9. The “original” version premiered on AT-X on July 15. The anime began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on July 10, with other streaming services releasing the show later. Notably, the version of the show varies depending on the streaming service. The world premiere of the anime took place at Anime Expo on July 4.
The returning cast for the new anime includes Yลซto Uemura and Junya Enoki, who voice the new characters Polyurethane and Polyester, respectively. These two are the “Tenshi” (Angel) brothers, with Polyester as the older brother and Polyurethane as the younger.
Akeno Watanabe takes on the role of Kneesocks in the new anime, replacing Ayumi Fujimura from the 2010 series. Yลซko Natsuyoshi voices Fastener, taking over from Miki Makiguchi.
The creative team behind the new anime includes Hiroyuki Imaishi, who is returning to direct the series at Trigger. Hiromi Wakabayashi is back to write the script alongside Imaishi and also serves as a concept planner. Atsushi Nishigori continues as the original character designer, while Shigeto Koyama, Sushio, and Masaru Sakamoto, who previously worked on the original series, are designing the characters. Koyama is also credited with art direction. Yoh Yoshinari is listed as a “special specialist,” and Geek Fleet is credited for the original draft.
Kadokawa describes the new anime’s story as follows:
In Daten City, a realm between heaven and hell, sinister spirits known as “Ghosts” prowl the streets, feeding on human desires and resentment. Yet, in the darkest moments, two figures emerge to obliterate these vengeful beings with a divine light beyond human understanding. Their names? Panty & Stocking! These fallen angel sisters have been tasked with purging the darkness engulfing the earth. But who are they, really? Are they truly messengers of God… or agents of the Devil?
Both Sushio and Mai Yoneyama are returning to work on the new project. Yoneyama, who worked as a key animator on the previous “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt” anime, marks her debut as a key animator. Sushio will work on the new project as an animator, having previously served as an animation director and key animator on the original show. Studio Trigger had previously noted at Anime Expo in July 2023 that Sushio wanted to work as a key animator on the new work, but Trigger did not officially confirm his involvement at that time.
The original 13-episode anime aired in 2010, directed by Imaishi at GAINAX. Geek Fleet was in charge of series composition, and the music featured songs from Teddyloid, Booty Bronx, Taku Takahashi, and more. Atsushi Nishigori was responsible for the character design.
