The excitement around the Azur Lane franchise is far from cooling down. Fans recently received a thrilling update regarding the much-anticipated second season of the anime shorts, Azur Lane: Slow Ahead! 2! The official X account — the platform formerly known as Twitter — for this series revealed that the second season will indeed make its debut in the year 2026.
Alongside this exciting announcement, fans were treated to a delightful illustration. The artwork was created by Nana Mori, who also serves as the character designer and chief animation director for the season. The illustration captures the essence of the beloved characters, hinting at the vibrant and engaging adventures that lie ahead.
Directed by Shunji Maki, this new installment of Azur Lane is being brought to life by the talented studio CANDY BOX. A significant name returning to the project is screenwriter Yû Satŏ, known for his work on Kiratto Pri♦Chan and is reuniting to handle the scripts. The musical score for the second season will be composed by Fûga Hatori. Meanwhile, Masaori Tsuchiya, who previously worked as the sound director for New Game! is set to reprise his role.
The first season of Azur Lane Bisoku Zenshin! premiered back in January 2021. Directed by Masato Jinbo, and with scripts written by Yû Satŏ, the season was brought to life through a collaborative effort between Yostar Pictures and studio CANDY BOX, with Yokohama Animation Lab providing production support. Notable team members from the first season include Hiromitsu Hagiwara and Kengo Saitô, who served as the character designer and chief animation directors, respectively. Additionally, Shade contributed to the soundtrack.
In April 2018, the original manga by Hori launched on the official social media accounts and the website of publisher Ichijinsha.
Fans who are already familiar with the anime might recall that the main television adaptation of Xiamen Yongshi’s Azur Lane smartphone game premiered in October 2019. This series was streamed with English subtitles and an English dub by the popular service Funimation. Episodes 11 and 12 aired back in March 2020.
Additionally, Tsuchii’s manga on Queen’s Orders also inspired an original video animation, adding more layers of depth to the Azur Lane universe. The original iOS and Android game is a strategic collectible game where players assemble fleets of early 20th-century warships from various countries to engage in battles.
The upcoming season promises to deliver the same blend of charm and excitement that fans have come to love, making it an event not to be missed.
